Shelley Winters Reporter, mayor's assistant, leagle beagle, lover and spy; Shelley Winters has worn many hats. She is at the heart of strange happenings at home and abroad, gaining national and international notoriety for her escapades. For someone who professes only "to like things that are fun", Shelley gets into a lot of trouble. |
![]() |
Ryan Beckwith Dogged by problems, Ryan has remained resolutely cheerful in the face of exploding girlfriends, cult membership, amnesia and borderline illegal bat-keeping. Cleaned up from his early hard-drinking days, his father is king of the tramps and his sister is Tim's girlfriend. |
![]() |
Amy Chilton From tattooed, promiscuous and frequently unwashed student days, Amy has matured into a canny operator about town, surviving three different incumbents in the mayor's office. Bohemian and foul mouthed, she is Shelley's best friend and conspirator in plots that usually involve wearing disguises. |
![]() |
Esther De Groot A dark-minded young woman, Esther has blossomed from plain goth to eldritch princess of Tackleford Grammar School. Queen of the "skull eye", she is not to be crossed at any cost. |
![]() |
Erin Winters Shelley's statuesque little sister is mainly concerned with "things that are serious". Grew to her (comparatively) enormous size after drinking something her sister stole. Spends a lot of time brushing her hair while scowling into the mirror. |
![]() |
The Boy Bright, nameless youth, keen to avoid trouble but dragged into it - invariably by the dangerous World of Women. His sure thing with Erin Winters was put paid to by his taking up with Esther, resulting in an encounter in a caravan in Wales. |
![]() |
Desmond Fish-Man Cowardly, truculent and capricious. Patently a mer-man of some sort (though he sometimes denies it), his history is unknown. |
![]() |
Ernest Cromerty Ancient and venerable nautical inventor with vast knowledge of the ways of the sea. Has known many women, many fights and many entirely preventable tragedies. |
![]() |

||

![]() |
Fallon Young Incompetent secret agent. Sweetie-pie. Has nemesis (Dave Swann, crime pope). Shelley's former best friend. Looks good in catsuit. Unreliable. Ryan's girlfriend. Saved Ryan from cult using disguise. In Shelley and Amy's bad books of late due to increasingly indiscriminate and inaccurate shooting. |
![]() |
Paul Milford The Boy's rugby-playing best friend. Boorish but loyal. Tries to help! Displays supreme over-confidence in the fields of women and musical ability. |
![]() |
Tim Jones Inventor, loverman, sage. Prone to bouts of red mist. Needs a woman's touch to keep him from the madness. Served as mayor before exile to Wales. |
![]() |

![]() |
Raffles, Gentleman Thief Suave master criminal who turns Shelley's knees to jelly. |
![]() |
Bob Crowley The "wickedest man in the world", brought forward in time from 1860s London to preside, trapped in the school, as headmaster of Tackleford Grammar school. Quite wicked but probably not as wicked as he makes out. |

![]() |
Rachel Dukakis-Monteforte Journalism student. Tessa's friend. Wicked girl. Out of control dislike of nemesis (Shelley). Thrown off bridge by irate motorcycle gang. Sold soul to devil, disappeared. Returned as Mother Superior of some evil nuns, doing the devil's bidding. Believed burned to a crisp in a wicker vole. |
![]() |
The Mother & The Father The Boy's parents. Invariably concerned. The Mother expresses her concern as exasperated fury, the Father as embarrassing anecdotes. |
![]() |
Devil Old scratch, the great deceiver, Ba'al, Belial, Lucifer. An all round bad egg. |
